Style your profile without breaking search
Put the fancy font in your name, not your @
Apps only allow plain letters in the @username. Your display name is where fancy fonts and symbols go. It's the first thing people see.
Make a fancy nameExample@nova → 𝓝𝓸𝓿𝓪 ✦Frame your name with symbols
A symbol on each side, like ✦ nova ✦ or ꒰ nova ꒱, looks designed without hurting readability.
Copy symbolsExample꒰ nova ꒱ · ⋆。˚ nova ˚。⋆Add a keyword to your display name
On Instagram the Name field is searchable. "Nova | Travel Tips" shows up when people search "travel tips". Don't turn it all into fancy fonts or search can't read it.

Do
- Keep your real name or keyword in plain text so people can find you
- Use fancy fonts for one word or a frame, not the whole bio
- Preview on a friend's phone to check nothing shows as boxes
- Match your @ across every platform, and grab the domain
Don't
- ×Put fancy fonts in anything people need to type, like your @ or email
- ×Use lookalike letters to copy another account. That's impersonation, and apps ban it
- ×Stack lots of symbols, because screen readers read every one out loud
- ×Change your @ before checking the new one is free everywhere
Got the look? Now lock in the name.
Find a handle that's free on every app, then grab the matching domain before someone else does.
Why fancy fonts work in names but not usernames
The "fonts" you copy from this page aren't fonts at all. They're separate Unicode characters, such as Mathematical Bold or Script letters, that look like styled versions of A to Z. Because they're ordinary text, you can paste them anywhere that accepts Unicode: Instagram and TikTok names, X display names, YouTube channel names, Discord nicknames, bios and captions.
Usernames are different. Every major app limits the @username to plain letters, numbers and one or two separators like the period or underscore. That keeps handles typeable, searchable and hard to fake. So the winning combination is a clean, memorable @username that's free on every platform, plus a display name decorated with fonts and symbols.
Use fancy text with care. Search inside apps often can't match styled letters, and screen readers may spell them out or skip them. Keep your real name or a keyword in plain text, and use fonts and symbols as the finishing touch.
Username hacks FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Type your name in the fancy font generator on this page, tap a style to copy it, then paste it into Edit profile → Name on Instagram. Fancy fonts work in the Name field but not in your @username, which only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
Not in the @username on most apps. Instagram and TikTok allow letters, numbers, periods and underscores; X, Twitch and Pinterest allow letters, numbers and underscores; GitHub allows hyphens. Special characters, symbols and fancy fonts go in your display name and bio instead.
Fancy fonts are special Unicode characters. If a phone's system font doesn't include a character, it shows an empty box. Bold, italic, script and small caps work almost everywhere; square letters are the most likely to break on older devices.
They can be. Screen readers may read each fancy letter out one by one or skip it, and in-app search may not match it. Keep your real name or keyword in plain text somewhere in your display name, and use fancy text for decoration.
It varies. Instagram lets you change your name twice in 14 days, TikTok your username once every 30 days, YouTube your handle twice in 14 days and Twitch your username every 60 days. X and GitHub let you change it at any time. Check before you change, because your old name may be taken straight away.
Add a short natural prefix (the, its, real) or a niche suffix (cooks, studio, hq), rather than random numbers. Then check that the new version is free on every platform and grab the matching domain.
